National Events

Every year, the Cambodian Librarians Association hosts two major national events: the Book Fair and National Reading Days. These events significantly enrich the country’s literary scene by connecting publishers, writers, and readers. The Book Fair attracts thousands, promoting a culture of reading and literacy. National Reading Days focus on encouraging reading among students and young people through activities like storytelling sessions, book discussions, and writing workshops.

National Reading Day

Sub-Decree No. 120: Establishment of National Reading Day

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has officially designated March 11 as National Reading Day, an annual initiative aimed at promoting a culture of reading throughout the country. This event serves to cultivate reading habits, enhance literacy skills, and contribute to the preservation and strengthening of Khmer culture.

In the months leading up to March, preparatory meetings are held to ensure the successful organization of this significant event. The Cambodian Librarians Association actively participates in co-organizing National Reading Day each year, reinforcing the collective commitment to fostering a love for reading among the Cambodian people.

Through this initiative, the RGC seeks not only to promote reading but also to inspire a lifelong passion for literature, ultimately enriching the cultural fabric of Cambodia.

Cambodia Book Fair

The Cambodia Book Fair was first launched in 2011 by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and its partners, showcasing the vibrant culture of reading and learning in Cambodia. Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, alongside key partners including the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, this event promises to be a celebration of literature and education.

The Cambodian Librarians Association plays a vital role as one of the main co-organizers, contributing its expertise and passion for fostering a love of reading among all age groups. With the theme "A Reader, A Life-Long Learner," the fair aims to inspire attendees to embrace reading as a lifelong pursuit, providing a platform for authors, publishers, educators, and book enthusiasts to come together.
